Teaching is not only my day job— it's also an extension of my art practice. My goal as an educator is to create a classroom environment where students have the opportunity to “become themselves” to quote Paulo Freire. In my classroom, knowledge is exchanged back and forth, as students share and express their own unique life experiences. There is also a strong relationship between the work created in my classroom and my studio. When I commute to and from work, ideas travel across the 710 freeway. Sometimes my favorite personal projects start as a lesson plan, classroom experiment, or student sample.
